MRCB completed and handed over its 500kV transmission system development phase 1 and 1A project to Tenaga Nasional Berhad on July 18, 2003. The project was undertaken and completed by MRCB through its subsidiary, Technology Transmission Sdn Bhd (TTSB). It is the single largest transmission system to be ever developed in Malaysia. The handing over ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi.

Interesting facts and figures:

  • The 500kV transmission system is the single largest transmission system to be ever developed in Malaysia.
  • TTSB is the first ever local contractor to be awarded a project of this magnitude.
  • Valued at RM1.6 billion, the system forms the new backbone of the National Grid
  • Begun in 1995, Phase 1 involved the design and construction of the 500kV overhead transmission lines from Gurun, Kedah in the north along the west coast to Kapar, in the central region and from Pasir Gudang to Yong Peng in the south of Peninsular Malaysia.
  • The total distance covered for the 500kV transmission lines involves 522 kilometres. The 275kV interconnecting transmission lines under Phase 1A covers 73 kilometres.

This remarkable achievement by TTSB is the testimony of its engineering competencies coupled with the latest state-of-the-art technologies and its high standard of quality. Indeed, TTSB has attained ISO 9001:2000 accreditation, an advancement from its previous ISO 9002 accreditation.

MRCB's energy sector is now venturing into the international market. Its expertise in the energy sector is a stepping stone to securing projects from potential overseas market such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, Qatar and Sudan.
