A Pilot Project To Rehabilitate Beach At Teluk Cempedak

MRCB Environment Sdn Bhd was recently awarded a pilot project to rehabilitate the beach along Teluk Cempedak, Kuantan, Pahang by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia. It is the first of its kind in Malaysia and the Asian region.

The main objective of this project is to restore the beach physically and environmentally in order to improve the tourism industry in Pahang by enhancing the aesthetics around Teluk Cempedak. It involves using the Pressure Equalisation Module (PEM) system in combination with sand nourishment, where the PEM pipes are installed under the original sea bed to assist in equalising the pressure of ground water level and stimulate sand sedimentation. The beach is sand nourished to achieve a wider beach profile after which additional PEM pipes are then installed under new sea bed to reduce beach erasian.
