Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak officially launched the construction of the new RM1.4 billion Lot G integrated development at Kuala Lumpur Sentral, comprising a seven storey retail mall and 27 storey office tower, today.

The Retail Mall, with a Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 1.2 million sq. ft., is to be known as `Nu Sentral’ pronounced as “new Sentral”, offers a new addition to the lifestyle and entertainment elements to the largely ‘work,’ ‘play’ and ‘live’ factors that are currently highly visible at the Kuala Lumpur Sentral development. The office tower, with a GFA of 500,000 sq. ft., provides the much-needed office and commercial space in Kuala Lumpur Sentral and offers great investment opportunity.

Nu Sentral is in a unique strategic position as it is right at the focal point of Kuala Lumpur City’s centre of connectivity, linking it to the rest of the Klang and greater Klang valley via the city light rail systems (LRT) and the country commuter system and the rest of the world via the Express Rail Link (ERL) to the country’s largest international airport,” said YBhg. Tan Sri Azlan Zainol, Chairman of MRCB.

“Another unique accessibility feature is that Nu Sentral is linked to Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur via a fully air-conditioned bridge and another separate bridge to link to and from the KL Sentral Monorail Station. Moreover, it will also have direct linkage to the surrounding three Office Towers and a future linkage to a hotel development, he added.

Nu Sentral has a ready catchment population or market of more than 150,000 daily commuters that uses Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur. This is further complemented by more than 20,000 permanent workers and residents who are either currently working or residing within the Kuala Lumpur Sentral development, not mentioning the thousands more permanent residents within the Brickfields neighbourhood,” he continued.

The name and brand of Nu Sentral is a simple expression that there is always something nu for everyone at this retail mall that is specially designed for fast faced lifestyle.

“Our mission at Nu Sentral is to establish a new retail experience in shopping, retailing, socializing, entertainment and leisure. It’s about the journey and the shopping experience for shoppers in a fast-paced and urban transit hub,” said En.Kamalul Arifin Othman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PHB.

“The name and brand identity was created by combining the views and expectations of both direct and indirect stakeholders and the target market, culminating in the development of the brand essence - Urban, Agile, FreshNu Sentral is urban because it is right in the centre of Kuala Lumpur Sentral and Kuala Lumpur city. Agile as it aims to fulfill the ever expanding and rising expectations of city dwellers needs. Fresh as it is more than a fresh combination of retail, food and entertainment; it is a brand ‘nu’ attitude.

If its not nu, its not u tagline outline Nu Sentral’s unique brand promise and is designed to communicate what Nu Sentral, the retail mall means to the people, and what Nu Sentral can offer,” he added.

The integrated development, a joint venture development between Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) & Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB), is adopting three green building rating guidelines – the US-based Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED), Singapore’s BCA Green Mark and Malaysia’s Green Building Index.

The Retail Mall will undergo both Singapore’s BCA Green Mark (compliance) and Malaysia’s Green Building Index (Certification), making it the first green retail mall in Malaysia while the 27 storey Office Tower has already obtained pre-certification for LEED (Silver).

“This is an achievement that we take pride in as we are the first few adopting the current trend of developing `green’ standards property projects in the country. In fact, we are one of the pioneers in taking the lead in adopting the US, Singapore and Malaysia green standards building systems at the same time,” said YBhg. Tan Sri Azlan Zainol, Chairman of MRCB.

“Upon completion of this retail mall in 2012, we will see a full scale retail, entertainment and recreational component in Kuala Lumpur Sentral, making it a complete city-within-a-city development perfect for both local and foreign investors who are looking for strategic investment portfolios in Malaysia,”said Encik Kamalul Arifin Othman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PHB.

Located to the south of Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur, with direct road frontage to Jalan Stesen Sentral and Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Nu Sentral will be managed by Nu Sentral Sdn Bhd, a joint venture development by MRCB & PHB with 51:49 equity stakes respectively. Promising Quality Sdn Bhd (PQSB) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PHB and it will manage the office tower.
